November 2001

Aziz Choudry

Stakhanovite of the Month

Aziz Choudry is this Month's Stakhanovite of the Month.

In the Sea of Reaction of the South Pacific, there is an island.
On that island is a beacon, a beacon of hope reason and rationality.
That beacon is Aziz Choudry.

Comrade Choudry's writings on GATT/WTO, APEC, the MAI, colonization and the rights of Indigenous Peoples' to self-determination, New Zealand's neo-liberal reforms, workers' rights, multilateral financial institutions, the politics of aid and "development", bio-piracy, the anti-globalization movement, the post-Cold War role of security and intelligence agencies in monitoring and suppressing dissent, and so on, and so forth have already earned him praise in the real world.

And our photographs show him to be capable of living both an active and a contemplative life.

The Turtle is proud to serve as the vehicle for some of his fine, fine Prose, and is proud to add to the heap of his accomplishments the award of Stakhanovite of the Month, November 2001, for his dedication, his commitment, and his very fine ajrak -- the Sindhi fashion accessory for all occasions!.
