Comrades, The Turtle is in low spirits. The winter's hibernation, a period of profound reflection and fantastical imaginings, has been rudely curtailed; and the world outside is frightening as never before. The violence in Kosovo, Ethiopia and Iraq is all cause for great sadness, and it has provoked both anguish and understandable division on the international Left. March has been a month when the Turtle has been pruning the old, rather than forging ahead with the new. Chris Brooke's "Anderson Country" was finally polished and posted, and the site has been tidied up a bit, but we received no new articles or reviews, and the Dictionary has temporarily ceased to expand. Technological difficulties bedevil VTHQ, for the promised automatic random slogan generator is refusing to behave and come on-line, but the struggle carries on. Difficult times call upon the Left to use its imaginative, informed, articulate and engaged critical intelligence, and The Voice of the Turtle can carry your thoughts and opinions to the farthest-flung corners. As ever, we ask you to send to us your ideas and arguments, dreams and desires -- anything that you can express in the digital ether -- and the powerful editorial Turtle-O-Matic will transmogrify them into seamless prose. Reviews of recent books and films, your commentaries on the current troubles, and short entries for the Dictionary of the Turtle are all especially welcome, from new writers, as well as old.
